K-P plans stipend for imams, law to protect miners

K-P govt spokesman says will open Qila Bala Hisar for public after consultation with quarters concerned

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has directed its chief secretary to mend hurdles, make way and means to pay monthly stipend to prayer leaders of the mosques across the province.

The spokesperson of the provincial government Shukat Ali Yousafzai stated this on Saturday while talking to the delegations of the Shangla and Chitral district at his office in Peshawar.

Besides paying stipends to imam-e-masjid, the PTI government was also planning to table a bill in the provincial legislator for the protection of the rights of the miners, Yousafzai said.

He said that the K-P government in principle decided to pay the monthly stipend to the imams of the mosques on regular basis and has directed the chief secretary to mend the administrative hurdles in the way.

Regarding the people who work deep inside the earth to extract coal and other minerals, the spokesman said that the government has decided to close mines which do not meet the safety standards.

In this regard, Yousafzai said that the departments concerned will be tasked to do survey of mines and identify mines posing risk to workers.

He said the treasury benches will present a bill in K-P assemble for the protection if miners, and for setting the compensation in case of injury and death.

“The K-P government has shown great concern over the deaths of the miners in FR Kohat and has asked the concerned department to make law for the protection of their lives” Yousafzai said.

While answering a question the provincial spokesperson Yousafzai said that K-P Governor House to be open tomorrow on every Sunday for families only and added that being red zone of the provincial capital, measures will be taken for the security reasons.

While commenting on Qilla Bala Hisar, he said that PTI government has promised in election manifesto that we will open it for public and soon the people of K-P and from other provinces will be able to visit the historical monument.

Being the headquarter of the Frontier Constabulary it has remained inaccessible to most of the people.

However, the PTI government, Yousafzai said, will soon shift the FC Headquarters outside the city limits to an appropriate location after consultation from quarters concerned. Afterwards, the historic fort will be open to public like Lahore Fort and other such places in the country.

He said that this weekend the Governor House will be open for students of women colleges and universities of the province and the governor will personally welcome them at the gate, while from the next Sunday it will be open for families.
