HEC chief says quality of education should not be compromised

FAISALABAD: The recent visits to different universities by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairperson Dr Tariq Banuri aim to address educational woes and longstanding issues being faced by the administration of varsities, Express News has learnt.

Banuri announced that HEC will establish the National Academy for Higher Education that will train and help in the capacity building of the newly-inducted teaching faculty and administrative staff. The HEC chief visited Women University, University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Government College University etc.

He said that Pakistan should share agricultural experiences with other Muslim countries for advancement in the sector.

He was of the view that the commission was putting a special focus on the improvement of quality, access to education and research. He said it was a prerequisite to invest in the improvement of quality and capacity building of faculty members to attain development.

He said the quality of education should not be compromised at varsities. “We have to produce excellent professionals and carry out research on the socioeconomic needs of the masses,” he elaborated.

The HEC chairperson pointed out that after the establishment of the National Academy for Higher Education, the faculty will be provided three months’ training. He said that they will lay special emphasis on creating leadership qualities to produce excellent administrators and VCs.
