Transitions: Mubarak Shah Zuberi passes away

He was laid to rest at the PECHS graveyard.

Mubarak Shah Zuberi, a prominent social figure of Karachi and of the Pakistan community in the US, died here on Thursday morning. He was in his 70s and was being treated at a hospital for multiple illnesses for the past one week.


The funeral was held at his residence, 4-C Askari-II, and the Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Rehmania Masjid, Tariq Road after Zohar prayers. He was laid to rest at the PECHS graveyard.

Zuberi was the founder secretary of Dr Ziauddin Memorial Society and was an active member of the Sindh Red Crescent Society. He played a prominent part in the building of Hilal-e-Ahmer Centre at Teen Talwar, Clifton and in the establishment of the blood bank.

Later he migrated to the US and settled first in Albany, New York and then in Los Angeles.

He played an active role in the affairs of the Pakistani community in the US which had made him a popular figure among Pakistani-Americans. He was on a visit to Pakistan.

Zuberi was the son-in-law of the famous educational and literary figure of Sindh, Abdul Wahid Sindhi, and the brother-in-law of journalist Asaf Jilani. While in Karachi he worked as public relations manager of Premier Tobacco Co. The soyem will be held on June 4 between Asr and Maghrib at 4-C Askari-II near Cantt Station.
