While many loved their on-screen chemistry, it's surprising the star duo hasn't shared screen space since

As the 2011 hit TV drama Humsafar clocked seven years yesterday, its cast and crew shared nostalgic posts on social media. The critically acclaimed show, which is still quite popular on digital mediums and has even been launched on Netflix, saw the on-screen power couple Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan in lead roles as Khirad and Asher, respectively.

The Raees star took to Twitter to reminisce about her character and the show. "Humsafar gave me so much... I will and I am forever grateful for the love. Sparks fly and the magic is kept alive... because of all of you," she wrote.

Her post came after actor-director Sarmad Khoosat tweeted, "Woh humsafar HAI." Sarmad, who is known for not taking on romantic dramas, changed his tune in 2011 with Humsafar. "Before Humsafar, I’d never done a TV romance. I’m sometimes a little complaining towards the audience but largely, the different kinds of work I’ve done have found its own audiences. Sometimes it’s massive, sometimes it’s small,” he previously told The Express Tribune.

When asked about resorting to romantic scripts, the Baaghi actor said, “I don’t know if I consciously make that choice. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew simpler stories can be good stories."

Writer Farhat Ishtiaq tweeted a scene from Humsafar stating, "Pyare log (Lovable people) Asher & Khirad."

Mahira also shared a clip from the series on Instagram with a caption that read, "My dear Humsafars, Thank you for the unconditional love over the years. Out of all things that Humsafar brought with it, it’s this love I am grateful for the most. Love and magic forever, Yours and yours only, Khirad. "

But Fawad and Mahira weren't the only artists that received love from fans because of Humsafar. Actor Osman Khalid Butt responded to the Bin Roye star's Instagram post, mimicking Mahira's message with details of how the drama serial brought him 'fame' too. "My dear Humsafars, thank you for the unconditional love over the years. Out of all the things that Humsafar brought with it, it is the reaction to my parody I am grateful for the most. Mummy yeh aap kya keh rahi hain? (What is this you are saying?) Yours and yours only, Usher."

While the chemistry portrayed between Fawad and Mahira was absolutely loved by audiences, it's pretty surprising that the star duo has not graced the screen ever since.

Nevertheless, they did come together to work for an Indian magazine in the recent past. The pair looked like a dream as they featured on the cover of Brides Today magazine donning pieces from Fawad's wife Sadaf Khan's clothing line.

Fans won't have to wait too much longer for the onscreen unification of Mahira and Fawad though, as the two will finally be sharing screen space once again in the upcoming film Maula Jatt 2.

"I am super thrilled about Maula Jatt. I unite with Fawad Khan after Humsafar," the 7 Din Mohabbat In star said in an earlier interview. "We are expected to create the same magic like we did in Humsafar, but the two projects are totally different.”
