Punjab college principals told to keep campuses clean

Directorate colleges take note of deplorable conditions

RAWALPINDI: The Directorate of Public Instruction Colleges Punjab has issued an eight-point SOP to 750 principals, divisional directors and district deputy directors, as well as a warning circular, cautioning that if any college is found guilty of breaching the new SOP, the principal of the college-in-question will face strict action.

The action follows surprise visit of Punjab minister for higher education to Postgraduate College Chakwal.



According to reports the minister and his team was shocked to see dogs sleeping in the auditorium. To worsen matters there was dust covered on the desks in the classrooms, as well as laboratories and libraries which had cobwebs hanging from ceiling.

The lawn of the college was filled with weeds and overgrown grass, showing an abject picture of negligence.

Once exposed, the colleges directorate dumped the responsibility on respective principals and officials in-charge of government colleges at district level.

The circular states that there should be no overgrown grass or weeds in college grounds. Moreover, there should be no water leakage found in any spot from the main door of the school to the staff room and the classrooms.

The notice boards in the colleges should be functional and there should be no dust in the auditoriums, with all the classes kept clean at all times.



The classrooms, laboratories, libraries and computer labs should always be functional and kept updated, the furniture should also be adequate, the washrooms must be kept clean with fresh water available at all times in the taps. Drinking water should be made available at all times. The college map should also be made public at all times. Public Instruction Director also said that a zero-tolerance policy will be adopted in the future and the principal of the said college will be taken to task. The provincial minister for higher education will be visiting colleges throughout Punjab on surprise visits.
