LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has said India has always sabotaged Pakistan’s efforts for regional peace and taken all such overtures as a sign of weakness. However, despite of this attitude, he added, the world powers especially the US had always patronised India.

The government of Prime Minister Imran Khan should give priority to the Kashmir issue in the address at the UN General Assembly on September 27 and especially refer to New Delhi’s persistent refusal to hold talks with Pakistan, Haq said while addressing a congregation on Saturday,

Haq said Kashmir is a disputed territory and there are numerous UN resolutions assuring plebiscite in the Himalayan valley.

“India is engaged in genocide of the Kashmiris to crush their freedom movement and is settling thousands of Hindu families in Kashmir in a bid to change the valley’s demographics,” he said.

“India’s unholy designs will never succeed and the sacrifices being rendered by the Kashmiris will bear fruit soon. The government should openly support the Kashmiris liberation struggle and apprise the world community of the oppression of Indian occupation forces in the valley,” he said.

The JI chief said his party was striving to wipe out oppression and exploitation in society and for building the country as a truly Islamic welfare state according with the vision of its founding fathers.

“It is unfortunate that those ruling the country for the last 70 years have betrayed its ideology which led to the fall of Dhaka. The nation will have to revert to its ideology for a secure and bright future. The message of Karbala is also to rise against every tyrant,” he added.

Haq said it was time the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government took steps for the implementation of its manifesto especially for creation of ten million jobs, building five million homes, and evolving an interest-free economy.
