PESHAWAR: In a bid to boost tourism in the province, the provincial government has decided to set up a provincial tourism authority and generate additional revenue.

This was disclosed by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Senior Minister for Tourism Atif Khan while speaking to the media on Wednesday.

Atif said that the authority will be overseen by the chief minister, the chief secretary and himself.

The senior minister further said that the Local Government and Communication departments will also be part of the authority to ensure the presence of solid infrastructure and cleanliness in tourist spots.

"The authority will explore new sites besides providing basic facilities at existing sites," Atif explained, adding that they were currently focusing on promoting regional tourism.

With K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan directing authorities to complete the Swat motorway project by December, Atif said that the project too will help promote tourism in the province.

The minister added that they are also planning to open up the erstwhile federally administered tribal areas (Fata) for tourism, which is expected to soon become a part of the province and has huge potential to attract national and foreign tourists.
