LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has sanctioned a recruitment drive for all vacant posts at public hospitals across the province.

She issued the orders while chairing a meeting held at the Primary and Secondary Health Department on Tuesday.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has selected 6,891 candidates to fill vacant posts for medical officers. Out of these, 2,967 are for women.

The selected candidates will be provided details of their posting through an online preference system during the first week of October.

Approximately 10,763 medical officer posts are vacant across the province; however, a few doctors are working on an ad hoc basis. The selected doctors will replace ad hoc medical officers.

The minister said that in the next phase, a further 3,872 medical officers will be made requisite to the commission in October. “PPSC should be approached for the early recruitment process in the health department,” the minister directed.

She also expressed her satisfaction over the recruitment of 2,834 nurses and ordered that their posting be done on a priority basis.

“The requisition for the recruitment of a further 1,919 nurses will be sent to PPSC in October,” she pledged.

The minister added that the recruitment of employees from basic pay scale (BPS) 1 to 15 will be made through the testing service.

The Punjab chief minister has given his approval for recruitment in the health department, a clear indication of the government’s willingness to improve the public health sector, she said.

All district health authorities will be allowed to complete the recruitment process in their respective departments, Rashid stated. “There will be no compromise on merit and transparency during the recruitment process.”
