Indonesia keen on boosting economic ties with Pakistan

Consul general says Indonesian investors can capitalise on export potential by using its economic corridor

KARACHI: Indonesia is keen to boost its economic ties with Pakistan in the coming years at the government, private-sector and individual levels, said Consul General of Indonesia Totok Prianamto.

Speaking at a ceremony in Karachi on Monday, he said, “The exchange of business delegations is substantial evidence of how excellent the trade and investment ties between the two countries are.”

He said the bilateral relations were improving with the passage of time.

The consul general said that Indonesia had promising potential in the tourism industry, characterised by the charm of its nature and the richness of its culture. “Pakistan and Indonesia have been enjoying excellent long-standing relations,” he said.



He said that both countries had strong historical bonds, which could serve as a foundation to further strengthen the bilateral relationship. “The friendly relations should be transformed into mutually rewarding partnership in the years ahead, particularly in areas of trade, economy and socio-cultural relations,” he said.

Prianamto highlighted that Pakistan’s strategic location is unique for economic cooperation among all the regional countries. “Pakistan offers a logistics route for Indonesian investors who can not only tap the local market, but can also capitalise on the export potential of Pakistan by using the economic corridor,” he stressed.



He pledged to work with Pakistan to further cement the relationship between the people of Indonesia and Pakistan, especially in Sindh, in a bid to share the best practices and progress for mutual benefits.

Moreover, the Indonesian consulate here encouraged and supported some initiatives to enhance relations and cooperation between the two countries especially in the fields of education and social culture, he added.
