Delimitation: New district to be carved out of Rawalpindi
Proposed district to constitute Murree, Kahuta, and Kotli Sattian tehsils.
RAWALPINDI:
The Punjab government has decided to establish a new district that will encompass three tehsils: Murree, Kahuta, and Kotli Sattian. The proposed name for the district is Kohsar, a senior government official informed The Express Tribune.
The source said that the Punjab government will announce establishment of the new district, along with some mega projects for the district’s three tehsils, during the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s ongoing visit.
The proposed plan had been discussed in detail in a high-level meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), attended by senior leaders Raja Ishfaq, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Raja Zuffarul Haq, who had encouraged Punjab government to establish the new district.
The source added that the Punjab chief minister has given a “green signal” and the district’s headquarters would either be Murree or Kahuta. He confirmed that work on the proposed district is in progress but the Punjab government is yet to inform Rawalpindi division officially.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Political advisor and Member National Assembly Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal confirmed that decision has been taken, and an announcement to the effect will be made soon.
Secretary General PML-N Punjab said that the plan to establish a new district is not new and has been under consideration for a long time.
