GILGIT: Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan resigned from his position on Friday following a controversy triggered by an alleged leaked video.

“Mir Ghazanfar has resigned,” confirmed a source at the Governor House. “The resignation has been forwarded to the concerned authorities.”

Khan’s family sources also confirmed the resignation, claiming he resigned due to change of government at the Centre.

Punjab governor Rajwana resigns

“He didn’t think it was appropriate for him to cling on to the post as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had formed government at the centre and it was their prerogative to appoint a fresh governor in the state,” said a family member.

However, the governor’s resignation preceded a controversy sparked by a video which was reported by a local Urdu daily. Referring to the video, the newspaper claimed Khan was plotting to subvert CPEC.

The issue was widely discussed on social media as well. According to the G-B information department, Khan had planned a press conference on Friday but then postponed it and instead tendered his resignation.
