11 candidates vying for vacated Senate seat

LAHORE: Candidates submitted their nomination papers for scrutiny on Saturday for the upcoming Senate by-election.

The seat vacated by Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar is being contested by 11 candidates. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shehzad Waseem said that he s confident the party will win the seat. "I decided to submit papers on the directions of the party."

PTI's Dr Yasmin Rashid also reached ECP's provincial office and recommended Malik Zaheer Abbas Khokar for the position.

Others from the ruling party who submitted papers include Hamid Khan, Noman Qaiser, Umar Sarfaraz and Aijaz Chaudhry.

The final candidate from the party will be selected by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) Khawaja Ahmed Salman, Hafiz Mian Noman, Saud Majeed and Mehr Ishtiaq also submitted their nomination papers for the by-poll.

Multiple PTI leaders were present at the ECP's provincial wing. Provincial Election Commissioner Zafar Iqbal is scrutinising papers of all the nominees.
