A 19-year-old is said to have "committed suicide" after his girlfriend was 'gang-raped' in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, Hindustan Times reported on Friday.

Police became cognisant of the September 1 'rape' after the victim, a minor, lodged a complaint on Wednesday. The force claimed to have nabbed two suspects a day later on Thursday.

“The girl and the youth were coming back from a bazaar. When they reached Bhelwatrikra in Khatghora area, two youths – Ishwar Das and Khem - objected to them roaming together. They then thrashed the youngster in front of the girl. When he fell unconscious, the duo outraged the modesty of the girl,” said Korba SP Mayank Shrivasatva said.
