LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Agriculture Malik Nouman Ahmad Langrial has said that the provincial government will not leave sugarcane farmers in the lurch this year. “Hopefully, the sugar industry will join hands with the government of Punjab and crushing season of sugarcane will start on time,” he said while presiding over a meeting with representatives of the sugar industry at the Agriculture Civil Secretariat, Lahore. Punjab Agriculture Secretary Wasif Khurshid also attended the meeting. “Delay in the crushing season will result in farmers bearing losses as weight of sugarcane decreases with each passing day,” he said. Moreover, farmers should be paid as per announced support price, he stressed and warned that delay in payments would not be tolerated.

majid udhi | 6 years ago | Reply let punjab support sugar cane farmers but do not support export of sugar subsidies, as sugar plantation is the highest & love with water consumption, sugar cane plantation should be replaced with oil seeds , like sun flower, rape & soya seeds which use less water and mautre in four months, as we are importing oil seeds and palm oil runs in billions of dollars
