Quack shoots, injures health official during raid in Raiwind

Separately, man and his minor son were crushed to death by speeding van

LAHORE: An official of the health department was shot and injured by a quack for raiding his clinic in the limits of Raiwind police limits
on Sunday.

Police said a team of the health department led by DEO Health Nishtar had raided the clinic of a quack in Ariaian Wala Pind, Raiwind. The suspect named Abdul Sattar intervened into the official functioning of the team and resisted. After an exchange of harsh words, he opened fire at the team. Resultantly, an official of the team, identified as Ghulam Nabi, received five bullet injuries. He was shifted to nearby hospital.

The suspect managed to flee right after the incident. A police team reached the spot, collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of the witnesses. Police also registered a case under different charges, including an attempt to murder.

Later, police arrested the suspect. Police said that they were investigating the matter further.

Man, son die crushed to death

In a separate incident, a father and his son, both fruit sellers, died in a road accident in Sundar on Sunday.

After the incident, family, relatives, and locals took to the streets on Multan Road to protest the deaths. They blocked the road for many hours for traffic and demanded an immediate arrest of the suspect.

Police said the deceased persons, identified as 32-year-old Abdul Rahim and his 10-year-old son Rehan, were going on a cart to a nearby market to buy fruit. A speeding van crashed into their cart and as a result they sustained severe injuries and died during treatment in the hospital. They were rushed to a nearby hospital. The driver of the van sped away after the accident. A police team reached the spot on information, collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of the witnesses.

After the accident, a large number of protesters gathered and placed the bodies on Multan Road. They blocked the road for traffic by burning tyres and staging a sit-in

Senior police officers reached the spot, met the protesters and convinced them to end the protest. After assurances from officials, the protesters left.

Boy allegedly sodomised

Meanwhile, a teenage boy was allegedly sodomised in the limits of Mangamandi police on Sunday.

According to the father of the victim named Munir Ahmad, the victim J* was busy in hoarding his animal in the fields near his house. The suspect, identified as Makhan Mansha, took his son to a nearby field of beans, handcuffed and sexually assaulted.

When the victim started shouting for help, a child ran to his house and informed the victim's elder brother, who rushed to help him. The suspect managed to escape when he saw his brother coming.

Ahmad demanded justice against the offence committed against his son. Police reached the site and recorded statements of the witnesses. Police also registered a case under unnatural offence against the accused person.

65,000 quack clinics operating across province

A week ago, a seven-year-old boy, whose throat was slit after he was sodomised in Shera Kot, died at Children's Hospital. Reportedly, the victim T* had gone with his siblings to bathe in a nearby tube well. While the children were playing, the accused Azeem lured the young boy to the garden he was hired to look after where he allegedly sodomised him.

The death of the child sparked protest. Family members, relatives, and locals in the area placed the deceased's body on the road and blocked traffic.
