Four people shot dead in attack on ambulance in Shikarpur

Two people were also injured in the attack on Shikarpur-Larkana road

HYDERABABD: A free will marriage in Jacobabad district triggered a bloody dispute between two families in which five persons were killed and two women were injured in two separate incidents on Friday. Four men were shot dead in a grisly armed assault on an ambulance in Shikarpur district carrying an injured from Jacobabad to Larkana.

Earlier in the day, 20-year-old Nadir Jakhrani, a family member of the groom, was killed in a clash between the two families of the Jakhrani tribe in Mataro Jakhrani village in Jacobabad. The woman's father, Kewro Jakhrani, sustained a gunshot wound and was being transported to Larkana in the ambulance which was attacked.

Tariq Jakhrani, of Sunani sub-caste of Jakhrani tribe, eloped with the daughter of Kewro, whose sub-caste is Sewani, over a month ago. However, the woman's family lodged an FIR of kidnapping and, subsequently, forced marriage.



"The two groups clashed in Jacobabad. An injured was being shifted to Larkana en route Shikarpur but the ambulance was attacked in the Dakhan area by armed men who later escaped in a car," Shikarpur SSP Sarfaraz Nawaz Shaikh told the media. He also confirmed four deaths.

The bodies were taken to the district headquarter hospital for postmortem before they were handed over to the family for burial. The SSP said the FIR will be registered on complaint of the slain persons' family. He said that Shikarpur and Jacobabad police will conduct joint raids to arrest the suspects.

The slain persons were identified as Kewro Jakhrani, Pir Muhammad Jakhrani, Muhammad Khan Jakhrani and Abdul Raheem Jakhrani. The women, Razal Jakhrani and Rindiani Jakhrani, were injured.

Allahdad Jakhrani, a relative of Sewanis, alleged that the other side, earlier last month, kidnapped one of their women and killed on Friday four their family members.

Jani Jakhrani told the local media that the ambulance was chased by the assailants. He said the driver was disembarked from the vehicle before the assailants opened indiscriminate fire.

Earlier, the Muhammadpur police station in Jacobabad district took Nadir Jakhrani's body for postmortem in the taluka hospital.
