LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of a petition challenging the construction of the Liberty Park and Ride Plaza.

The LHC adjourned the hearing as counsel for the Lahore Development Authority sought time from the court to file a reply. Accepting the request, the court asked him to file the reply within two weeks.

The court was holding proceedings on the plea moved by the law firm of Mohammad & Ahmed and shop owners against the construction of the plaza, which the petitioners claim has been built on land which was originally allocated for the development of a park.

The petitioner prayed the staying of the auction of 26 shops of the plaza, contending that it was based on malafide intent to deprive the shopkeepers of their rights. They said their customers were not being allowed to park vehicles in front of their shops, which was illegal and unconstitutional. The petitioners said the land was open space which was owned by the Parks and Horticulture Authority who had illegally transferred it to the Lahore Development Authority for construction of the plaza.
