Former head of BMC Hospital arrested over illegal appointments

PMA Balochistan accuses Anti-Corruption Dept of harassing doctors without proof

QUETTA: The Anti-Corruption Department on Tuesday booked four accused, including former Bolan Medical Complex Hospital medical superintendent (MS), for making illicit appointments at Quetta’s second largest government hospital during 2016-17.

MS Muhammad Ayoub Kakar, Dr Rafiqullah, Dr Rafique Lehri and administration officer Shair Muhammad were arrested for misuse of power and illicit appointments in the hospital.



“On the directions of Anti-Corruption Department Director Muzaffar Zeeshan Lehri, an anti-corruption team, headed by Deputy Director Atta Mumin, raided their residences and arrested four accused involved in illegal appointments in the health department during the period of 2016-17,” said Anti-Corruption Department officials, adding that action was taken after consecutive complaints against the four medics.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Balochistan condemned the arrests, saying the Anti-Corruption Department was deliberately harassing doctors.

“The appointments were made following all legal procedures,” said a statement of the PMA, refuting the allegations.

“It was a pre-planned game by the department. They called them in their office and said that they had been arrested which shows a conspiracy against doctors in Balochistan. They have not any evidence of illegal appointments.”
The Anti-Corruption Department is conducting further investigation.
