Karachi Chamber to help SMIU students

Varsity and chamber agree to collaborate in research, other avenues

KARACHI: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday by Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) for cooperation in various departments of the varsity.

SMIU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Muhammad Ali Sheikh and KCCI President Mufassar Atta Malik signed the MoU at Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium in the varsity.

According to the MoU, both the institutions will organise joint trainings, workshops, seminars and conferences and will also collaborate in research. The KCCI also pledged to provide opportunities of internship and employment to SMIU students.

Addressing the ceremony, the SMIU VC said the cooperation between the varsity and chamber would prove beneficial for the country's economy. Universities across the world play instrumental role in introducing new ideas for the industrial development through research, he said. The VC also mentioned that the varsity was situation in the business hub of the city.

On his part, Malik said he was pleased to have signed the MoU with SMIU. He said cooperation of the KCCI with the varsity would help fill gap between educational and industrial institutions.

SMIU deans, faculty members, senior management, students and representatives of the KCCI also attended this event.
