LAHORE: The Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) hosted a roundtable discussion on attracting small-ticket investments from overseas Pakistanis. Pakistani expatriates from across a wide variety of sectors attended the discussion. One of the major proposals floated by overseas Pakistanis was the need to have a robust investment protection programme supported by law. The proposed Overseas Investment Protection Programme must, in essence, ensure protection from fraud, theft and other possible risks that threatened small-ticket investments from overseas Pakistanis, the meeting participants said. Linked to that recommendation was the emphasis by the overseas community on streamlining the banking channels so that key concerns such as repatriation of profits were sufficiently addressed.
