The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Sunday decided September 27 to be the last day to receive applications for postal ballot before the upcoming by-elections.

According to Radio Pakistan, a notification issued by the top poll organising body read that the facility is being offered to government officers, members of armed forces and public office holders, their spouses and children along with the differently-abled and prisoners.

The ECP also instructed those who will be assigned duties to apply for postal ballot by October 4. These members include presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, polling agents and police personnel.

Filing of by-poll nomination papers commences

On August 28, the process of holding of inviting nomination papers from candidates commenced. The returning officers displayed public notices, inviting candidates to submit their nomination papers for the 37 constituencies.

The ECP will scrutinise the nomination papers on September 4 and appeals can be filed for acceptance or rejection of the papers on September 8.

The appellate tribunal will decide over the appeals on September 13 and the ECP will issue the revised lists on September 14.

According to the ECP schedule, candidates can withdraw their nomination papers on September 15, while electoral symbols will be allotted to the contestants on the next day.

Usman | 6 years ago | Reply Why do prisoners get to vote?!? This is insane!! In the USA, UK, Australia prisoners don’t have the right to vote!! In the US those with serious criminal records like corruption, electoral fraud, money laundering don’t have the right to vote.
