Fire safety: Filling stations, eateries issued notices

Booked for lacking fire- fighting equipment and smoke alarms and emergency exits

RAWALPINDI: Civil Defence Department has issued notices, levied fines and challaned various filling stations, hotels and restaurants in Gujar Khan for failing to install fire-fighting equipment, smoke alarms and safe exits in buildings.

Civil Defence District Officer (DO) Sanjida Khanum issued challans to six fuel stations, two eateries and a bakery on GT Road for lacking fire- fighting equipment and smoke alarms and emergency exits.

These basic requirements were necessary to avoid loss of lie and injury in case of fire.

She said that notices were being issued to the violators for not having fire-fighting equipment at fuel stations and hotels which were higly vulnerable to fire hazard.

Khanum said that a fire safety survey has been started to identify buildings violating safety rules. A number of such buildings have been identified and their managements have been directed to take required safety measures to avoid any loss of life in case of any emergency.
