ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday took notice of the transfer of District Police Office (DPO) Pakpattan Rizwan Gondal, according to a notice issued.

Justice Nisar also issued notices to the provincial inspector-general police, additional IG Punjab, regional police officer Sahiwal and Gondal to appear on Friday at the Supreme Court with the inquiry report prepared by the police for the PM.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan also took notice of the incident and has asked Punjab CM to submit an inquiry report into the matter.

On August 28, the DPO of Pakpattan, who pulled over Khawar Maneka, the former husband of the first lady of Pakistan, was transferred.

On August 23, a police team, led by DPO Gondal, briefly chased Khawar’s car after he did not stop when signalled by the police. An official, requesting anonymity, said Khawar started abusing police officials instead of acting according to the law.

Later, upon the request of an unidentified influential, the officer was directed to visit Khawar’s residence and tender an apology to him for intercepting the vehicle. Gondal, during a meeting called by Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, refused to apologise. He said the police were simply doing their job. Shortly after, the DPO was transferred and asked to report to Central Police Office (CPO) in Lahore.
