KARACHI: The teaser for the third installment of film-maker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's 3 Bahadur was released this week and the only thing impressive about it was the star-studded cast and music score.

3 Bahadur becomes highest grossing animated film ever in Pakistan

Titled 3 Bahadur: Rise of the Warriors, the one-minute clip features the invasion of supernatural beings on Earth. The three main leads of the franchise namely Saadi, Amna and Kamil befriend a female superhero who possibly belongs to another planet and introduces herself as Erma.

Chinoy's idea of bringing a female superhero to the forefront should be lauded for. However, it still hints a Burka Avenger vibe that seems like the film-maker forced a strong female lead in the story.

While the animation is still consistent to that of the two earlier installments, it's the music score that deserves praise in Rise of the Warriors. The teaser kicks off with sounds of nature and progresses towards more power-packed music implying the amount of action the film will offer.

Moreover, the characters are voiced by some of the most prominent names of the local entertainment industry. This includes the likes of Mehwish Hayat who will be voicing Erma as Fahad Mustafa and Sarwat Gillani return to the franchise. Nimra Bucha, Behroz Sabzwari, and many others will also voice titular characters.

The first film in the 3 Bahadur franchise was released in 2015 and was a hit among the masses. However, the 2017 sequel titled 3 Bahadur: Revenge of Baba Balaam proved to be a let down. Like the teaser of Rise of the Warriors, Revenge of Baba Balaam also had catchy and entertaining numbers.

John Angier’s soundtrack added much needed depth and intensity, especially in the climax. In terms of visuals, the team outdid itself as compared to the 2015 film. The colours and textures sprung out and the world creation was better than the film’s predecessor.

While the Revenge of Baba Balaam undoubtedly topped the first offering, it still did not present anything worth remembering after leaving the theater hall. We hope that the third installment brings something fresh to the table and take Pakistan's animation to the next level.

Are the 3 Bahadur trio splitting up?

3 Bahadur: Rise of the Warriors is all set to hit screens in December 2018.
