Decided in principal, not notified yet: PTI official
ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday decided to appoint Shaheryar Khan Afridi as minister of state for Interior.
The notification for the new appointment will be issued later today. Afridi had contested the 2018 general elections on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ticket from NA-32 and won from Kohat.
"Decided in principal, Not notified yet," a senior party leader confirmed to The Express Tribune.
Afridi was also present in a meeting held at the PM office on Monday during which officials of the interior ministry briefed the premier about the functions and working of the ministry and it's attached departments.
PM unveils 21-strong cabinet
PM Imran's cabinet comprises 21-members including 15 ministers and five advisers. Of the 21 members, almost one-third of the nominated cabinet members previously served in various ministerial positions during the Musharraf regime between 1999 and 2008.
PTI allies were handed over six of 16 ministries: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) was given two ministries and one each to Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Awami Muslim League (AML), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).
Two other allies – Akhtar Mengal’s Balochistan National Party (BNP) and Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) – did not get any share in the cabinet. Seven of the nominated ministers and advisors had previously served on key posts during the Musharraf’s era. Two others served as cabinet members during the previous PPP government (2008-2013).
