Road accident: Four of a family killed in car crash near Rawalpindi

Dead included two children

ISLAMABAD: At least four members of a family, including two children, were killed and five others were injured when the vehicle they were riding in met with an accident near Mandra in Rawalpindi in the early hours of Sunday.

Rescue officials said that a Honda City car (bearing registration number ABV-906 - ICT) rammed into a bridge wall near the Mureed railway crossing on Chakwal Road near Mandra shortly before 3am.

Rescue 1122 said that three adults and six children were travelling in the vehicle. Four of them died on the spot while the rest were injured. Doctors described the condition of two of the injured as critical.

The dead were identified as 35-year-old Imran, 25-year-old Asmat and two unidentified girls aged five and six. Rescuers said all four died of head injuries.

The injured were identified as 24-year-old Sumbal, nine-year-old Habiba, three-year-old Alisa, seven-year-old Taiba, and 14-year-old Jaweria. The last two had also suffered critical head injuries.

The injured and the dead were shifted to a rural health centre in Mandra. After being provided initial treatment, the injured were taken to hospitals in Rawalpindi.

The family hailed from Talagang in the Chakwal district.
