Local artists welcome newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Sunday addressed the nation for the first time as the country’s premier. The new leader shared what he envisions for ‘Naya Pakistan’.

Mixed reaction on social media to PM Imran’s inaugural address

Social media users were quick to post their reactions on the Prime Minister’s speech. Artists such as Mahira Khan, Anoushey Ashraf and Faysal Qureshi shared their two cents, while welcoming Khan to the prestigious role. Here’s a lowdown of what our local celebrities had to say about IK’s first speech as PM.

Mahira Khan:

“Words one never thought you’d get to hear, feel proud to call you my Prime Minister Khan! At your service with this mission of yours,” the Verna star wrote on Instagram.

Rabia Butt:

The supermodel was all praises for Khan’s speech. Taking to Instagram, Butt wrote, “From education to pedophilism to corruption to foreign policy to climate change to water deficiency to basic human rights to animal rights. For once someone spoke about Balochistan too while categorically stating Karachi our financial capital. Not a single topic he missed.”

Anoushey Ashraf:

“All the best IK, if you even deliver on half of what you promise, you’re my PM for life,” the VJ shared on Instagram.

Ushna Shah:

“What a hopeful and heartwarming speech! A better Pakistan is on the horizon for ALL citizens. I pray that Allah gives our Prime Minister a long and healthy life to bring about these incredible changes. The poor, the sick, the impoverished; the forgotten now have hope,” the Alif Allah Aur Insan starlet wrote on Instagram.

Hamza Ali Abbasi:

From attending countless rallies to standing by Khan’s side during his spat with ex-wife Reham Khan, the Parwaaz Hai Junoon star has always been an avid supporter of PTI.  “Allah has finally showered his mercy and blessing on Pakistan in the form of this man we know as Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” Abbasi tweeted, soon after Khan’s speech.

Faysal Qureshi:

The TV actor took to Twitter to share his thoughts. “The speech was coming from the heart and people could feel it. He spoke a common man’s language. I sincerely pray that he is able to implement his agenda,” he wrote.

Farhan Saeed:

“I have tears in my eyes hearing my Prime Minister Imran Khan speak!” the Sajni crooner said.

Mawra Hocane:

Singing praises for the newly-elected PM, the Sammi starlet shared, “I absolutely love my Prime Minister. What a fantastic first speech. Lead the way captain! You’ll find us right behind you!”

Urwa Hocane:

She has been voicing her support for Khan for quite sometime. And now that his struggle of 22 years finally came to a close, Urwa tweeted, “Feeling the patriotic rush like never before.”
