ACCRA, GHANA: Former United Nations Secretary General and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kofi Annan has died, the Kofi Annan Foundation said on Saturday.

Annan, of Ghanaian nationality, died in hospital in Bern, Switzerland, in the early hours of Saturday, two close associates of Annan said.

A post was shared on the deceased leader's official Twitter account, whereby the Annan family shared details about the former UN leader's short illness and demise.



The family have requested privacy during this time of mourning.
