‘Elimination of poverty, corruption is our top priority’: Sarwar

PTI leader says a new era is about to begin in Punjab where people will get their due rights

Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, PTI’s candidate nominated for the slot of Punjab governor, said his party came into power by public votes and for the first time in the history of the country, a democratic government would be formed as per public aspirations.

He expressed these views while talking to the media persons on Thursday. “Whatever decision Imran Khan will take after becoming the prime minister regarding the Governor House, it will be implemented in letter and spirit because the mission of Imran Khan is our mission. Eradication of poverty and corruption will be our first priority,” he said. “Any office bearer of the government will not be able to utilise public office for his personal interest. A new era is about to begin in Punjab where people will get their due rights.”

He said every office and institution was polluted with corruption and people were unable to get due rights without paying a bribe, but this would not continue in PTI’s government. “There will be speedy trial of corruption in our government and accountability will begin from the high-ups,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, PTI central leader and MPA Main Mahmoodur Rasheed said following the election of Punjab chief minister, citizen would get rid of, what he called ‘the dark age’ as the new democratic era was about begin.

He said he had indicated that Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) would not join ‘diesel alliance’. “I believe that Khawaja Saad Raffique should be nominated as the opposition leader but it is unfortunate that Hamza Shehbaz Sharif has been nominated for this position.

Rasheed said when Shehbaz Sharif came into power, the provincial economy was in surplus by Rs100 billion. But by ruining public institutions and making companies, Sharif looted billions of rupees. The former chief minister always made tall claims of good governance but he badly failed to deliver, he added.

Responding to a question, Rasheed said his party has never tried to constitute a forward block in the PML-N but several friends from the former ruling party have offered cooperation to the PTI.
