Although she was criticised for her pro-majoritarian and anti-liberal remarks, Ranaut rejects justifying lynching. “I stand by everything we spoke about.”

India has witnessed many incidents of Hindu-Muslim rivalry in the last few years wherein lynching by cow vigilantes has often been a disputable topic. The Tanu Weds Manu star shared her two cents on this matter, stating that while cows need to be protected, every time lynching occurs, she is heartbroken.

After some accused Ranaut of normalising cow vigilantism, the Queen star responded with “We didn’t normalise lynching at any point. If a certain religion worships cows, you can’t slaughter cows. If it’s a sentimental thing, why instigate people?”

Ranaut added that it is not okay for one to hurt people's sentiments "under the garb of being a 'liberal'," stating that in a diverse land like India, one should be considerate. "Being inconsiderate is not being liberal,” she said.

The actor currently has two films in the works, namely Mental Hai Kya with Rajkummar Rao and Manikarnika, where she plays freedom fighter Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi.
