Balochistan celebrates 72nd Independence Day with full joy

Day kicks off with 21-cannon salute, ends with prizes being distributed among best-performing students

QUETTA: Like elsewhere across the country, the 72nd Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with national fervour and solemnity in Balochistan on Tuesday.
The day began with special prayers in mosques for the unity, solidarity and prosperity of the country.
A 21-cannon salute was presented after morning prayers in the provincial capital Quetta.

The main ceremony was held at the lawns of Balochistan Assembly where caretaker Chief Minister Alauddin Marri and Balochistan Assembly Speaker Rahila Hameed Khan Durrani jointly hoisted the national flag.
Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Saleem Bajwa, provincial ministers, newly-elected assembly members, Balochistan chief secretary, inspector general of police, IG Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan and other high officials attended the flag-hoisting ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said, “The cowardly terror attacks cannot weaken the morale of the nation as security forces are trying to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country. The security forces are playing an important role to ensure sustainable peace across the province.”
Marri also paid tribute to the martyrs.

“The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other ongoing projects in the province will remove the sense of deprivation among the people and bring prosperity in the region,” he said. “Balochistan is rich in natural resources, which are needed to be explored and utilised for the welfare of its people.”
The chief minister said it was a matter of “great pleasure” that democracy was taking roots as democratic institutions were strengthening, which according to him, “is the only way for the country to make progress”.
He said the Mastung suicide attack and Quetta bombing were aimed at disrupting the general election in Balochistan. However, the people foiled the nefarious designs of the terrorists by casting their votes on July 25 and they had now great expectations from the new government, which would hopefully address their problems, he added.

He congratulated the nation on the 72nd Independence Day of the country.
Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan Sector Commander Quetta Tasawar Sattar along with Jamal Raisani hoisted the national flag after laying a floral wreath at the grave of Siraj Raisani in Mastung.
Siraj and 153 other innocent people were martyred and up to 200 were injured in a suicide attack on an election meeting.
Deputy Commissioner Saifullah Khetran hoisted the national flag at a ceremony at Government Boys High School Dalbandin. He also distributed prizes among the students, who presented national anthem and a tableau show.

The Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) officials and employees also celebrated the Independence Day at the Qesco headquarters and offered prayers for the stability and development of the country. The national flag was also hoisted atop the building.
The FC and local administration arranged a flag-hoisting ceremony in Kuhlo, which was attended by civil society members, officials and students. Deputy Commissioner Agha Nabeel Akhar hoisted the national flag.
Deputy Commissioner Loralai Abdul Nasir Doltani also took part in the national flag-hoisting ceremony in Duki.
Ceremonies were also held  in Pishin, Mastung, Khuzdar, Kalat, Noshki, Kharan, Chaghi, Turbat, Panjgur, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Sibi and other areas in connection with the Independence Day.
