Son-in-law of former premier said to be suffering from diabetes, liver ailment

Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar, the son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, was shifted to Adiala Jail from Islamabad's Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Tuesday.

Safdar was shifted to the prison after his health improved, according to Express NewsOn August 9, he was taken to Pims after his health deteriorated following a liver surgery.

Last week, a medical board of Pims doctors said Safdar had to remain in hospital due to health concerns. They performed an ECG to determine the condition of his cardiac stent and also conducted a liver test. Safdar is said to be suffering from diabetes and a liver ailment.

Safdar taken to Rawalpindi hospital

He was sentenced to one year in prison by an accountability court on July 6 in connection with the Avenfield apartments reference. On July 8, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) took Safdar into custody and said it would be initiating legal proceedings against all those who  helped him evade his arrest. Safdar had staged a show of power in Rawalpindi before surrendering to authorities. He lashed out at state institutions earlier at a public rally and called on supporters to stand against "injustice". Hundreds of PML-N workers were present on the occasion.
