PTI nominates Qasim Khan Suri for NA deputy speaker slot

Imran-led party nominee for NA speaker Asad Qaiser submits his nomination papers

Hours after the maiden session of the 15th National Assembly, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominated Qasim Khan Suri for deputy speaker slot.

Hailing from Balochistan, Suri secured an MNA seat from NA-256 (Quetta II) by beating Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani in the July 25 general elections.

Suri, who belongs to Pashtun tribe, joined the PTI in 1996 but became active member of the Imran Khan-led party in 2007.

Holding a masters’ degree in International Relations, the deputy speaker candidate has already served as PTI provincial president twice. He is also a member of the party’s core committee.



He was given a party ticket for a National Assembly seat from Balochistan in the 2013 elections but he remained a runner-up and defeated by Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai.

Suri contested the same seat again in the July 25 pols and obtained over 25,000 votes defeating Achakzai with 11,487 votes.

Meanwhile, former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) speaker Asad Qaiser, who this time was nominated for NA speaker slot on Friday, submitted his nomination papers at the lower house of parliament secretariat on Monday.
