Animals have their right to live without any abuse and exploitation like any other living being, said a young activist talking to children on the concluding ceremony of PNCA summer Camp on Thursday.

“Animals are useful to us in many ways and we need to take care of them for their healthy life. The healthy animals can contribute more productivity to our daily life,” said Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) volunteer and Islamabad Devcom Centennial Leo Club (IDCLC) charter president Shaaref Munir.

Shaaref Munir said many people love to have pets at their home but don’t take care of them as required. “Many of us abuse the pets by giving them insufficient food or beating them for no reason or put them in miserable conditions just to enjoy their pain. This is psychological disorder,” Munir said.

He pointed out that owners of the beasts of burden, despite having used these animals to haul heavy cargo around all day long, do not give them sufficient food, their living conditions are worst, and their healthcare is zero.

Regarding wild animals in captivity, Munir said, said unfortunately many wild animals die in the zoos where all professional measures were supposed to be taken by the officials.

The wild animals are not provided with the natural habitats in the zoos neither given right food and shelter.

Munir proposed to have civil society representatives on the boards of the zoo so that they shall have citizens voice in taking care of the wild animals in the zoos. He said Islam has protected the rights of the animals, both domestic and wild. “We need to learn and implement the rights of animals. This would be the level of social recognition of everyone’s rights.”
