ABBOTTABAD: Show cause notices issued to 22 senior doctors, including two former chief executives, of the Ayub Medical Institution (AMI) has been suspended after they were challenged before a high court.

A single-member bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) – Abbottabad Circuit Bench, comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali Shah, issued the order after three different, but similar, writ petitions were filed by Dr Salim Wazir and others.

Wajiur Rehman Swati, Sajjad Ahmed Abbasi, and Zareed Qureshi presented the three petitioners while Shahid Aziz presented the AMI.

In their petitions, they stated that based on a judgment from February 7, it had been agreed that if the Board of Governors of AMI intended to proceed further against the petitioners on the report of the Provincial Inspection Team (PIT), first show cause notices would have to be issued to the petitioners to explain why they should not be prosecuted on the basis of the investigation report.
