Fire engulfs Quetta vegetable market

Vendors appeal to government for help

QUETTA: Fire engulfed an entire vegetable market located on Joint Road in Quetta, reducing vegetables and fruits worth millions of rupees to ashes.

Though no casualty was reported in the fire, vendors were in mourning as the entire market burnt down.



“We don’t know what caused the fire, but within minutes the whole vegetable market was reduced to ashes and our vegetables and fruits with it,” said a teary-eyed vegetable vendor Ameenullah.

Fire brigades flanked by rescue workers rushed to the spot and started dousing the flames. After hours-long operation, the fire was extinguished.



“We had brought vegetables and fruits worth millions of rupees, but in minutes the whole stock was burnt. Dozens of vendors have lost their business,” said another vendor Noor Khan, demanding of the government to help them.

So far the reason behind the fire could not be ascertained. However, police said that the vendors were using gas cylinders inside the market to cook things, which might have caused the fire. “We are following every lead to determine the actual cause of the fire,” said a police officer.
