ISLAMABAD: PTI’s parliamentary committee, scheduled to meet on Monday (today), will formally endorse PTI chief Imran Khan’s nomination for the post of prime minister.

All newly-elected MNAs and senators have been asked to attend the meeting.

However, no agenda for the meeting had been circulated.

A party spokesperson said that the meeting had been called for holding a ‘general discussion’ among parliamentarians.

PTI’s spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said that the party would formally announce Imran’s nomination for the post of PM.

Members of the meeting, he said, would also discuss the post-election domestic political scenario.

“The party is in touch with at least three former Indian cricketers and they will be sent official invitations once the date for the ceremony is finalized,” said a senior party leader who is overseeing arrangements for the inauguration day.

Among others, the following members of the 1992 world cup squad have been invited: Aaqib Javed, Ijaz Ahmed, Inzamamul Haq, Javed Miandad, Moin Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad, Rameez Raja and Wasim Akram.

Former Australian captain Ian Chappell is also among the invitees.

Dismissing all contradictory media reports about would attend Imran Khan’s inauguration ceremony, PTI clarified that all invitee, including Khan’s close friends from the cricket world, would be sent formal invitations.

“I have been invited, but not in writing. I got a call from his (Khan’s) team, but I haven’t received any mail yet. I am waiting for a formal invite,” an Indian newspaper quoted Kapil Dev as saying on Saturday.

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sindhu recently stated that he would love to attend the ceremony as a “goodwill ambassador”.

Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar also confirmed receiving a telephone call, saying he would seek Indian government’s advice whether to attend the ceremony or not.
