Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, the country's probable prime minister-in-waiting, is now one of the most followed leaders on Twitter.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman has attained the seventh spot on the list with 8.17 million followers.

Khan's party has an immense presence online and on Twitter, he has become the most active political leader in the country.

More people follow the PTI chairman than Canada PM Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron and Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu.

 

United States President Donald Trump tops the list with 53.5 million followers and is the most popular world leader on Twitter.

Narendra Modi comes second on the list with 43.3 million followers and Pope Francis has the third spot with 17.7 million followers.

Khan's party won 115 national assembly seats in the 2018 general elections and is set to form the first-ever PTI federal government.

Khan will reportedly take oath on August 11.
