Suresh Raina will lead India in the limited-overs series in West Indies next month after stand-in captain Gautam Gambhir was ruled out due to a shoulder injury, confirmed the Indian cricket board.
India’s already weakened squad was been dealt another blow as Yuvraj Singh has also been ruled out of the trip due to illness. Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar, who was rested from the One-Day International series (ODI), will now miss the Test leg as well in order to spend time with family.
Gambhir, who was initially given the responsibility of leading India in the limited-overs games instead of MS Dhoni who is resting at the moment, was troubled due to a nagging shoulder injury that he sustained in the World Cup final and aggravated during the Indian Premier League. Yuvraj, on the other hand, is suffering from a lung infection. There has also been criticisms that Gambhir was veiling his injury to play in the IPL.
Shikhar Dhawan and Manoj Tiwary have been announced as replacements for the fiery pair of the left-handed batsmen Yuvraj and Gambhir in the limited-overs squad. Meanwhile, the Test squad will include Virat Kohli and Abhinav Mukund as the two uncapped players.
Test squad
