PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Shah Farman lost the PK-70 (Peshawar V) constituency to Awami National Party’s (ANP) Khushdil Khan after a recount on Thursday.

The former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa information minister lost the seat by a margin of 187 votes. Farman had bagged 14, 648 votes to Khan's 14, 871 in the July 25 polls.

Previously, Khan had secured a total of 15,357 votes - 47 votes less than the PTI candidate.

The recount also saw number of votes reduce by 111 for Muttahida Majlsi-e-Amal's (MMA) Jan Afzal while Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Ghazanfar Ali's count grew by 101. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) Rajmali Khan bagged 260, Qaumi Watan Party's (QWP) Noorul Amin secured 360 votes respectively.

ECP okays recounting in 14 national, 10 provincial constituencies

It is pertinent to note that Farman will retain his spot in the K-P Assembly owing to his win in PK-71 (Peshawar VI).

The latest result brings ANP's total seat count to 7 - making it eligible for two reserved seats. Meanwhile, PTI's seats have dropped to 64, MMA retains 10, PML-N and independents hold five each.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had ordered recounts in around 70 constituencies after dozens of candidates approached the electoral body with complaints. These constituencies include both national and provincial assembly seats.

Once the recount process completes, results of all the constituencies are consolidated and winners submit their statements of election expenses, ECP would officially notify them as members of the respective assemblies. Thereafter, there will be three days for independents to join any party, after which parties will be allocated reserved seats of women and non-Muslims proportionate to their final tally on directly elected seats.
