Khuzdar hospital faces shortage of doctors

Also lacks medicines and machinery for treatment

QUETTA: The Khuzdar Teaching Hospital still faces lack of staff, medicines, and machinery, which is forcing the people to take their patients to other cities.

The hospital is yet to see any positive changes after being declared as a Medical Teaching Hospital. The institution is still running without senior staff and equipment.

There are still 25 vacant posts of MBBS doctors and teaching staff. Many transferred doctors are not willing to serve in the hospital since they have never joined their duties to ease the woes of people of Khuzdar.



The pre- and post-operation responsibilities are being performed by surgeons due to the shortage of doctors. They are also performing the services of the nursing staff. The equipment in the hospital is still not functioning as people are deprived of X-Ray and MRI machine. Consequently, the people are compelled to take their patients out of the city for minor tests.

The only teaching hospital for a population of more than 800,000 is running without medicine since there is not a single syringe available in the hospital. People have been demanding immediate action by the health department to provide adequate health facilities to the people of Khuzdar.



Earlier the Paramedical Staff Association (PSA) had demanded of the provincial government to ensure timely supply of drugs at a teaching hospital in Khuzdar, which has been facing a severe shortage of medicine for the last six months. The PSA blames the distributors for not supplying the drugs.
