Bollywood actor John Abraham isn't one to shy away from supporting meaningful causes. The 45-year-old has often played a crusader in his films and it seems like he is one in real life too. According to Bollywood Hungama, the Dhoom star was furious when he heard that a pregnant goat had been gang raped in India.

Sindh govt's bill acknowledges animals' inalienable rights

On July 25, a pregnant goat was alleged to have been sexually assaulted by eight men in Haryana. Animal rights organisation Peta took to Twitter, stating, "We worked with the police in filing an FIR against the accused. They’re expected to be arrested soon. Please join us in urging the government for stricter penalties, for those who abuse animals."

Earlier, another case of animal abuse was reported wherein a cow had been killed by drunk men in Karnataka after they inserted glass bottles into its intestine.

Apart from animal lovers, many Indians are shocked at the beast-like behaviour exhibited by the people. Twitter users in the country even launched a #JusticeForGoat campaign to protest against the brutality.

Being an avid animal rights supporter, John requested for the culprits to be hanged. He said, "I am appalled. Being an Indian, I say women and animals are not safe in our country. Capital punishment is the only way forward. Nothing else will work with the sick men in our country. For me my religion is being good to all living beings. These guys should be given capital punishment – simple." He added that since animals cannot speak for themselves, it's up to responsible humans to fight for them.

Later, Rock On!! star Farhan Akhtar also voiced his concern. He tweeted, "Women and children living in fear of the Indian man's power politics and sexual perversion was not enough, now goats and dogs will too. Something has gone seriously wrong in our evolution and education. Where's the light at the end of this tunnel?"

John is known to always be amongst the first people from the industry to stand up for social causes, especially animal rights. Last year, he adopted a stray dog and also posed for a Peta ad.
