The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced plans to provide free education to matriculation students from Balochistan and the erstwhile tribal areas for its autumn 2018 semester.
According to a statement issued by the university’s admissions directorate, aspiring students can approach the university’s regional offices in their respective areas to avail the facility.
New admissions are expected to begin from August 1.
This is the first time in the history of AIOU that free education at the secondary level has been made available for marginalised or less-developed areas of the country.
The university is already providing free education to neglected sections of the society including specially-abled people, prisoners, girls who have dropped out due to various reasons and people who are transgender.
