HYDERABAD: A scuffle between the workers of Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) that took place in Tharparkar district left four supporters of the PPP injured. The incident took place on Saturday night at Chachro.

According to the police, a rally led by PPP's elected MPA from the area, Qasim Siraj Soomro, was allegedly pelted with stones by the workers of GDA's Abdul Razzaq Rahimon when it passed outside his house. Rahimon was a contestant against Soomro in the July 25 polls.

Following the incident, police surrounded the residence of Rahimon. Family sources claimed the siege lasted for 20 hours. Town Committee Chairman Qamaruddin Rahimon, a family member of Abdul Razzaq, told the media that the police did not allow any family member to leave the house.

"We have been put under house arrest in a way," he said and blamed the police for acting partisan on behalf of Soomro.

Tharparkar SSP Imran Qureshi while talking to the media denied that Rahimon's house had been besieged. According to him, Rahimon's workers pelted stones on the rally in which four persons were injured and windshields of some cars were broken. He said the police will arrest the suspects who attacked the rally.

Meanwhile, Soomro told the media that they took out a peaceful rally which did not provoke the political opponents. He claimed that Rahimon's supporters initiated the scuffle by shouting immoral slogans against him and his party.
