Dozens of imported vehicles gutted in Karachi

KARACHI: Dozens of vehicles imported from Dubai were burnt on Friday when a fire broke out at a cargo ship at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

According to the KPT fire brigade spokesperson, the fire erupted at a cargo ship positioned at Birth No 1 at the KPT, adding that the blaze spread quickly before the arrival of the firefighters.

The spokesperson said that they also sought assistance from the Pakistan Navy fire brigade to extinguish the fire. Although the firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, dozens of vehicles imported from Dubai were burnt, he said.

The fire was put down after hectic efforts of at least three hours. No loss of life was reported while the cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
