Yesterday's results are yet to be announced officially but Jemima Goldsmith has already congratulated her former husband Imran Khan on his victory.

Taking to Twitter, Goldsmith reminisced about the elections of 1997, which were the first that Khan contested in.

Twitter has field day over Sheikh Rasheed's victory speech

"I remember Imran Khan’s 1st election in 1997 - untested, idealistic and politically naive," she wrote. "I waited up for the call in Lahore with a three-months old Sulaiman, who I had lugged around the country. Eventually, he called. “It’s a clean sweep" and after my gasp, “… the other way.” Imran roared with laughter."

After 22 years of struggle, Khan now looks to be on his way to being the next Prime Minister of Pakistan. "22 years later, after humiliations, hurdles and sacrifices, my sons’ father is Pakistan’s next PM," continued Goldsmith. "It’s an incredible lesson in tenacity, belief and refusal to accept defeat. The challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the first place. Congratulations, Imran Khan," Goldsmith wrote.

After Jemima's tweets, Pakistanis poured love for her.
