Three injured as PTI, ANP workers clash in Peshawar

Abbottabad finalises security plan for elections

PESHAWAR: Three party workers were injured when workers from two parties clashed in the Nahaqi Village on the outskirts of Peshawar on Sunday.

Daudzai police told The Express Tribune that workers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Awami National Party (ANP) exchanged hot words as they tussled over placing party posters.

Later both the groups gathered at the hujra of a local influential to settle the matter. Instead, the situation escalated and resulted in an exchange of fire.

As a result, three party workers were injured, including one from the PTI and two from the ANP.

The injured were identified as Asad Shah of PTI, Muhammad Jehanzeb and Muhammad Hussain of ANP. Muhammad Jehanzeb is the son of ANP leader and candidate for the provincial assembly constituency of PK-68 Peshawar III Mumtaz Khan.

All the three injured were shifted to Lady Reading and Khyber Teaching hospitals for treatment.



Meanwhile, in Abbottabad, the district authorities have finalised security arrangements for elections later this week.

The district has been divided into four parts where 2,392 police officers will be deployed, including 639 women officers. Two quick response force units will be on standby at district police lines.

This was decided in a law and order meeting held at the office of the Abbottabad District Police Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat.

SP Investigation Aziz Khan Afridi and Additional SP Sonia Shamroz Khan were assigned the look after the law and order situation in the district while SP Malik Ejaz was tasked with handling traffic on election day and to take care the smooth running of traffic in the district.

The Abbottabad district was further subdivided into 12 sub-sectors which will be controlled by the SHO’s of the respective police stations.

As many as 750 polling stations have been set up in 52 union councils. Of these, 160 polling stations have been declared as ‘most sensitive’ and 50 as sensitive. At these stations, additional police officers will be deployed.



Marwat has directed police officers to maintain close liaison with Rescue 1122, hospital authorities and other law enforcing agencies. Officers were further directed to enhance patrolling, especially at bus stops and hotels. It was further said that search and strike operation in different parts of the district will continue without any break.
