Survey: ‘Tell us again about your religious inclinations’

Police to gather information from Islamabad residents.

ISLAMABAD:

After a gap of nearly three months, the police have once again decided to gather information on religious inclinations or beliefs of people living in the federal capital.

A similar survey was carried out by the police back in January after the killing of former governor Punjab Salman Taseer at the
hands of his personal security guard.

The decision to repeat the exercise came in the wake of terrorist attacks in Karachi and areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) following Osama Bin Laden’s killing earlier this month.

The decision was taken in meeting of all police officers headed by the Inspector General of Police Islamabad (IGP) Wajid Durrani.

A fresh questionnaire to collect the information has been designed and will be distributed among residents through Community Police Centres (CPCs). Community police officers at CPCs will collect information from their respective designated areas across the city.

The survey includes questions about the person’s sect or if he has been studying at any religious seminary, said a police official.

Information about the type and kind of worship places in the area will also be collected. Security and Vigilance Committees already active in the city will ensure success in obtaining accurate information.

Later, designated community police officers will collaborate with locals to monitor their specific areas and take action against suspicious elements.
