ISLAMABAD:

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved the increase of Rs1.07 in the unit price under the monthly fuel price adjustment formula while a two per cent additional increase in the prices of electricity will be made from June.

Nepra authorities informed The Express Tribune that the Rs1.07 increase will be implemented after the gazette notification by the government. The two per cent addition will be made in the tariff while any additions done under the fuel adjustment formula are detailed separately in the bills sent to the consumers and it is not made part of the tariff.

They said that the application for permission of the increase was received from the electricity distribution companies through the Central Power Purchasing Agency and the application hearing was headed by the Nepra Chairman. The addition is considered for the month of April.

The applications said that there was an increase in the prices of the furnace oil in the international markets and 40 per cent of the electricity was produced using furnace oil. The addition will be applicable to all the consumers except the lifeline users and Karachi Electric Supply Company consumers.

fahim | 12 years ago | Reply we have more dark days ahead for us. This will have ripple effect across the board and prices of all commodities will increase. How will common man pay for this? What about small and medium industry? Loadshedding is generally 15 hours per day now.. We are stuck with 19,000 MW total generation since 2007 which our neighbor India is generating 171,930 MW and adding 78,000 MW more by 2020 with double digit growth in solar, wind, hydro and nuclear. I dont think we have any hope left for pakistan to compete with India.
