LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shafqat Mahmood on Friday said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is protesting over the arrest of its leaders and workers but have forgotten how the police tortured the workers of PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in the 2014 sit-in.

Speaking in a news conference, he said, “Leaders of the former ruling party are crying over the police action in wake of serious security threats,” he said adding “has the PML-N leadership forgotten how PTI leaders and workers were tortured during sit-in days.”

The PTI leader said that the government of Shehbaz Sharif did not even spare the women workers of PTI.  PTI leaders, including Shafqat Mahmood, Abdul Aleem Khan, Ejaz Chaudhry, Shoaib Siddiqui and Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed said that Shehbaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders have earlier crticised PTI for holding rallies on a container but today PML-N leaders are standing on a container in support of a convicted criminal.

Statistics belie tall claims of PTI lawmakers

PTI leaders said that the Nawaz Sharif has proved that his mission is to only remain in power. “PML-N workers are pelting stones and attacking law enforcing agencies in gross violation of the law. Today, Nawaz Sharif has died politically, while other party leaders are making fun of themselves by supporting a convict,” they added.

Mahmood said that Nawaz Sharif has lost public support. “The so-called public rally has shown that how many people are in their support. Hardly any people from Lahore came out from their house in support of a convicted criminal,” he added.  He said that Lahore has announced its verdict by not showing support the PML-N.

PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri said that Nawaz Sharif chapter has been closed after his arrest in corruption. “Now the court should order the arrest of Shehbaz Sharif in Model Town killings case,” he added.

“Families of Model Town carnage victims are waiting for the day when murderers of 14 innocent people will be hanged,” he said.

PTI candidates woo minorities ahead of general elections

Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) senior central leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said that if a person convicted in corruption is being arrested on his return to Pakistan then what is the harm in it. “Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif should tell what major work have they done for common and poor man or future generations in the last 15 years,” he added.
